FAQs

What do you want to know?

Why silk?

If the beauty and comfort of 100% silk doesn't convince you, there are plenty of other reasons for choosing silk:

Silk pillowcases are recommended by stylists to reduce frizz and moisture loss in hair overnight.

Because silk is smooth and much less absorbent than cotton, it won't dry your skin as much, and your skincare products are more likely to remain on your skin.

Silk is 100% natural and hypoallergenic.

Silk also feels cool against your skin on hot days or hot summer nights, making for a better night's sleep.

Sleep masks are also recommended for  improving sleep - so why wouldn't you choose silk to cover the delicate skin around your eyes?

What is Momme (mm)?

Momme (mm) is a method of measuring the density of the silk fabric - the weight in pounds of a piece of fabric if it were sized 45 inches by 100 yards. So in effect it is similar to thread count, and a higher measure means the silk density is higher. Different silk products use the character of low mm fabric or high mm fabric to affect the character of the product - for instance silk scarves are usually 6mm or 8mm to give a very light, fly-away, almost translucent fabric. In contrast silk dresses are often 30mm, and pillowcases tend to be in the middle, 16mm, 19mm or 22mm. we have chosen 19mm and 22mm for our silk pillowcases because it gives the right combination of softness for comfort and density for durability.

Is silk natural?

Yes. Silk moth larvae (Bombyx mori) eat Mulberry leaves, and when they pupate to become a moth, they produce silk fibres to create their cocoons. Each cocoon contains about (an unbelievable) 1600m of silk fibre. The cocoons are soaked in water to release the fibres and between 3 and 10 fibres are spun together to form a silk thread.

How do I care for my silk product?

Firstly - check the care label for your product. Why? Because silk scarves are more delicate than silk pillowcases and require more care in cleaning. Scarves should really be dry cleaned because they are made of light-weight, low density silk so won't cope well with being in a washing machine or even hand washing. Pillowcases and other products of 19mm or 22mm silk can handle more robust cleaning, but hand washing is the best way to ensure a long life. However, a delicate cycle in a washing machine with a silk care detergent will be OK.
